Tharayil/Tharayil – also known as MATA HARI
In their new research, Tharayil/Tharayil devote themselves to the artistic character Mata Hari, created by the Dutchwoman Margaretha Geetruida Zelle. She caused a sensation in Paris and Berlin in the years before the First World War, where she adopted the persona of a South Indian temple dancer and later achieved worldwide fame. Using performative, linguistic and musical means, Tharayil/Tharayil, as Swiss siblings of South Indian descent, approach what could be a reverse appropriation.
