Alexandra Bachzetsis – CHASING A GHOST
In her current work, the provocative and innovative choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis proposes to use the body as an artistic and critical lens to examine contemporary image production. For Chasing a Ghost, the artist is working with four dancers and two pianists on a performance that explores the concept of the “double”, which manifests itself in a series of duets. Bachzetsis draws on the fields of popular culture, literature, art history and fashion to expand the choreographic archetype of the duet with references to doppelganger, mirror image and uncanny doubling.
In Chasing a Ghost Bachzetsis connects and interrupts. She produces an image, movement or sound that is almost immediately doubled. A recognisable sound changes and becomes something else. A room that seemed familiar is shown from a different angle, and a movement that has just taken place appears in a different form a second later. Via the body, identity, the (moving) image and the space of the performance, Bachzetsis investigates fluidity and permanence – until we question what we have just thought and seen, only to let it be seen again in a different light.
