Salma Said & Miriam Coretta Schulte

Salma Said (*1985) is a performer, activist and researcher living between Egypt and Germany. She participated as an actress in several films, e.g. Rabie 89 by Ayten Amin, furthermore as a performer and writer in theater projects, among others 2018 in rosa & louise – a feminist manifesto by Ariane Koch & Sarina Scheidegger, Lessons in Revolting, Spring Awakening and …At your service! by Laila Soliman, as well as Thawret Alaa and El Mosabaa by Salam Yousry. Some of these works have been presented in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. She studied literature and film studies and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in “Cultural Anthropology”. In 2011, Salma co-founded “Mosireen”, a non-profit media collective that released the largest film archive of the Egyptian revolution in 2018, “858 – An Archive of Resistance”. While studying in Leipzig, Salma Said participated in the 2019 group exhibition “Museum on the Couch” at the Grassi Museum.

Miriam Coretta Schulte, born in 1987 in Frankfurt am Main, studied theater studies and directing in Hildesheim, Giessen, Paris 8 and Paris 10. In her works she often sets potential and powerlessness of bodies and body fictions as central points. For example, with the choreographic mnemonic “Hack-No-Tech”, which she designed with Catalina Insignares in Paris and develops further in lecture performances and workshops. In 2017, for a night called layla, she developed dance techniques for learning the Arabic language in a team with Roth/Hilari/Wilhelm at the Treibstoff Theatertage Basel festival. In 2018, thanks to Pro Helvetia – Swiss Arts Council, she was in Cairo for three months where she started the project Mimesia, a research format that explores in changing forms and constellations whether the process of admiration can be transformed into an empowering practice (premiere March 2019 at Kaserne Basel). She also founded the first Blasphemic Reading Soirées in Basel in 2016, a performative feminist reading circle that is now organized and performed collectively.
