Marcel Schwald – Das Jacob Burckhardt Katzenstück
Jacob Burckhardt- “the man on the thousand-note bill” – is a well-known unknown to the general public. 120 years after his death, his work is in fierce competition with the daily news – flood of the infotainment society, which forms political opinions on the basis of populism and relaxes with cat videos and GIFs.
The Jacob Burckhardt Katzenstück wants to make the conditions of a rediscovery work visible and tangible in the form of a multimedia reading room. It attracts its audience with mechanisms of fun culture and deliberately establishes the widest possible range between trivial entertainment and intellectual literature reception. Even the title Burckhardt’s famous name is deliberately linked to the popular and iconic “cat phenomenon”. The promise of this juxtaposition should be fulfilled.
We thank the Burckhardt Association 1818-2018.
