Eleni Vergeti & Christos Passalis – THE BOOK OF MYSELF
ΤHE BOOK OF MYSELF is a theatrical series, which, like literature published in serial form or like TV series do,
presents periodically its chapters.
The presentation of the chapters is not linear, it doesn’t follow the chronological order of the story. On the contrary,
their succession is random, following a sentimental rather than a logical order and the needs of the creative team.
ΤHE BOOK is a love story. It tells the story of a woman that loses her lover under unknown circumstances, her
effort to face the loss and her attempts to find him.
The flashbacks of the narration reveal the past of the heroine and the events of her life so far.
At times a weird fairy tale, at times a story that could be in a John Cassavetes’ or in a Lars von Trier’s film, changing
constantly in terms of style and genre, the ambition of ΤHE BOOK is to describe the subterranean regions of the
self and of desire.
# Chapter 1 – PARADISE is the first and the most luminous chapter of THE BOOK. The heroine of THE BOOK is in the room of a Hypnotist. With his help, she will travel back in time and in space: she will return to the moment when her lover died in a car accident while she was waiting for him in a deserted hotel in the countryside, on a winter’s day. But memory and dreams have their own rules, things get out of control and E. finds herself unexpectedly in Paradise. CHAPTER 1-PARADISE is a dream. It’s an attempt to reconstruct the past in order to get over it. It is a total assault against reality. It’s the weirdest chapter of THE BOOK so far, where a taxidermied eagle gives advices to the heroine and where Gena Rowlands talks to her through a television set. It is a place where the ghosts of the persons we have loved are entitled to be on stage and to sing their song of triumph.
The first chapters of THE BOOK OF MYSELF were presented in Athens, in 2017/2018: Chapter 7 – Faith and Chapter 33 – Love/What the Antelope said as well as the latest Chapter 1 – Paradise that premiered in May 2018.
